Make FireFox Faster

27Apr06

Here is a small set of changes that has to be made to make your firefox browser upto ten times faster.

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit enter. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Try this and you can see the difference ………..

    @Varun:
    But faster fox also caches all the websites you visit so that next time you go to the wbesite it loads faster. This is good as well as bad. What if you didnt want all the sites cached.

    The Arch Linux wiki has an entry on the subject, including what you said along with some other options to tweak/create.

    The url is

    This is a good post though. Keep up the good work.

    Nice guide and it does speed up firefox a lot, however you do not need to set the field named ‘network.http.pipelining.maxrequests’ at any higher a setting than ‘8′ as this is the maximum amount for this field. If you set it to 30 or some random amount as suggested it will not have any effect whatsoever see here :- http://www.nettechguide.com/how-to-speed-up-firefox-page-loading-times
