foobar2000 – light audio player

foobar2000Foobar2000 is an advanced audio player for the Windows platform which is light on the system. It almost supports every audio format and can be depended where your system gets fried up with audio players of the likes winamp, iTunes etc.

  • Audio formats supported: MP1, MP2, MP3, MP4, MPC, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC / Ogg FLAC, WavPack, WAV, AIFF, AU, SND, CDDA.
  • Full unicode support.
  • Advanced tagging capabilities.
  • Support for transcoding all supported audio formats using the Converter component (requires external commandline encoder executables for different output formats).
  • ReplayGain support – both playback and calculation.
  • Customizable keyboard shortcuts.
  • Open component architecture allowing third-party developers to extend functionality of the player.

Foobar2000 definitly isnt very visually simulating, but is far more easier to get used to and manage. Now this is a software for the average computer guy, whose comp gets hung up every time iTunes loads.

  1. Is it that the foobar is developed by the person who developed winamp.

  2. @Sanddep, not sure about that, but will soon check it up.

Foobar works great, fast and it doesn’t try to go online! I actually notice a better audio quality with it. I’ve been using it for years. Unlike the other hyped, commercial players, Foobar delivers. I try to play all my audio with it. And IF you can stream web radio with it, then you can also record it! Just right click the now playing title and choose “convert”. It won’t play most commercial web radio stations though, you know the kind that won’t work through Firefox. Will play most public and indie radio streams like NPR, college radio and IceCast stations. Also I had a worm that randomly ate through my mp3 collection, I didn’t know what files were good or bad until I played them all the way through, but with Foobar I was able to do a semi-auto batch check to find the bad mp3s, what a time saver.. late.

  4. Thank you PJ for sharing your experience with FooBar and enlightening the other readers and myself on the few unnoticed features of FooBar. Thanks mate 🙂
