FIFA 06 the latest installment of the series to hit the stores – and it rocks!!! For those of you who loved the earlier releases, you just can’t miss this one. EA Sports has done a complete overhaul and you can notice the difference right from when you start the game, with the new look and smooth menu navigation.

The game engine has been totally rewritten and this version has the best gameplay and game physics yet. They have concentrated on attacking play and has a number of new moves like pace control and dribbling skills. And when you play the game, you can see how closely it actually resembles real football games. The set pieces have been greatly simplified and this adds to the realism.
The career mode (now called the Manager Mode)  has had vast improvements and you have control over far more factors, making it more realistic and challenging.

There are a lot of cool unlockable items like Video Highlights of last season, the World XI team and the Classic XI team, featuring football greats like Beckenbauer and Cantona. These and many others can be unlocked at the Fan Shop after collecting points by finishing a number of set Challenges. The challenges range in difficulty and provide many hours of fun.
FIFA 06 disappoints in one area – Multiplayer. We had hours of fun playing our friends over the LAN in the older versions but this version has a major problem – Lag. EA seems to have neglected the Multiplayer part and this is a big let-down. Every key touch takes a second or two to register and this can make network play irritating.

But  the games scores well in the single player mode. New features such as team chemistry and performance rating that change during the game has been introduced. team morale has also been included as a factor. There are a lot of attacking options and moves for the player to experiment with. The Challenges are, well… challenging and there’s a host of goodies to be unlocked in the Fan Shop. Transfers can be made between teams so as to keep up to date with the teams. The make-your-own-player feature allows you to have as much control over the new player as possible, right from his date of birth to the  thickness of his eyebrows and even the way he celebrates after scoring a goal.
All in All, FIFA 06 is a great game, far better than any of it’s predecessors in terms of gameplay, features, presentations and overall feel.

You can find a lot of info about the game and downlaod the demo at their official site. Don’t forget to have a look at the strategy guide there. There are also other sites that have a lot of FIFA add-ons, tips& tricks and unofficial software downloads for the game.
